Automated Handling Time - Same day handling

Hey everyone,

I recently turned on Automated Handling Time to comply with the new OTDR rules, but I’m running into an issue. I’ve always offered same-day handling for orders placed before 2:00 PM, and I continue to ship them out the same day.

Now that I’ve activated the automated setting, it defaults to a 1-day handling time, even though my orders still ship same day. As a result, customers are seeing later delivery dates, which is negatively affecting their purchasing experience.

Has anyone else faced this problem, and if so, how did you fix it? I want my actual shipping times to reflect in the delivery estimates customers see. Any advice would be appreciated!

I posted this very question 3 weeks ago here in the forum and got no responses- except Bryce at Amazon said he would look into it.

We have not turned on automated handling time for this very reason- we ship everything before cutoff same day- and it is really dumb to let Amazon set a 1 day handling time and show extended delivery. You don't mention if you have the "same day" tab turned on in your shipping templates? We do- and my question was, does this same day tab in the shipping templates override the AHT setting? If it does- and if you have that tab available in your templates- that would be your answer and it would allow me to turn on AHT without there being a negative effect on delivery promises.

I think that having all at same day could be very risky. Any equipment breakdown, power failure, and so on and you wouldn't have time to recover. Sellers are punished severely for late shipping, so having a cushion is useful.

Your handling time clock does not stop until the package is scanned into the system. If you use usps for shipping, package is often scanned the next morning, so be careful what you are asking for.

I am having exactly the same issue. I have reached out to Seller Support and as usual they were zero help. Our Promise Gap has continued to get longer since we changed to the automated handling time. Really hope someone has a solve for this.

Hey there!

We recently had an Ask Amazon event with the OTDR team, and someone asked a question about Same-Day handling and AHT:

"We have continued to see our Promise gap = Promised delivery time - Actual delivery time increase since enabling SSA and Automated handling time. We ship same day and now since we enabled AHT the minimum handling time our account shows is 1 day. How can we get same day handling time with AHT enabled? Also how can we materially lower our Promise gap of 2.7 days?"

This was the teams response: "How can we get same day handling time with AHT enabled? AHT looks at your actual shipping performance and ensure you have late shipment rate of 4% or less. Based on this high bar, AHT has determined that 1-day would be preferrable to avoid late shipping and deliveries. Our development team is aware of that some Sellers would like to accelerate their handling time beyond what AHT sees in historical orders, and are working to provide a feature to let Sellers override and set faster handling times than AHT is recommending.

Also how can we materially lower our Promise gap of 2.7 days? One factor that influences your promise gap is that manyof your orders use the manually set transit time configured in your shipping template under the Free Economy section, which does not use SSA's automated transit time. We suggest your revisiting your shipping templates and consider disabling Free Economy and using Standard ship options instead where you can also set free shipping by setting your shipping fee to $0.00."
