Sudden ACOS Spike from 20% to 60%

Hi everyone,

I’ve been running Amazon PPC campaigns with a steady ACOS around 20% and daily sales of about $500. Suddenly, out of nowhere, my ACOS skyrocketed to 60%. This all started right after I slightly lowered my daily budget to avoid going out of stock (I still have about 60 units left), but I didn’t actually make any changes inside the PPC campaigns themselves. I just reduced the daily budget from $80 down to $30, and after that my campaigns just didnt convert anymore.

Has anyone else experienced such a sudden and dramatic spike in ACOS combined with a sales drop? Could this be an Amazon system glitch or some backend issue affecting ad performance?

Would really appreciate any insights or suggestions on how to diagnose and fix this.

Thanks

Most likely because of Prime Day. People are looking now and waiting for Prime Day. Also lower bids means different placements of the ads. Possibly your ad was on page 1 of search and the lower bid moved your ad to page 2 which has a drastically different conversion rate.

Edit - I also want to mention on auto & manual campaigns there is a new option to "increase reach" which places ads off of Amazon. This is the default setting. You can limit the ads to Amazon Only to reduce spend and I assume increase performance.

Hello @Seller_5xG0GbJvs9AU0,

My name is Dougal from the Community Manager Team and I agree with @Seller_aNryBfYO3DTmL's response (Thank you!). Since you did ask for suggestions diagnosing, I recommend Amazon Ads Academy and specifically the Troubleshoot campaigns to optimize performance course to start.

The Ads Academy is a free resources and there are tons of other videos and courses there to help with the various ads products.

Hope this helps and please let me know if you have any questions.

Best, Dougal
